Hi, I’m Keishiro
Kyushu Wanderer is a one-person project. I’m Keishiro Tsuneyoshi, and I live in the Oita/Miyazaki area of Kyushu — which is also why almost everything on this site is within a few hours’ drive of where I actually live.

Why This Site Exists
Most English-language guides to Kyushu cover the same handful of places: Fukuoka, Beppu’s big onsen, maybe Yufuin and Aso. All of that is genuinely worth seeing — but it’s also a tiny fraction of what’s actually here. Kyushu has 85-meter waterfalls with almost no English coverage at all, horseback outfits that don’t run an online booking system, and hydroelectric ruins next to a spot a 15th-century ink painter once stopped to paint. Most visitors drive right past all of it. I started keeping notes on these places for myself, and eventually decided the notes were worth turning into something other people could use.
How These Guides Get Made
Every place on this site is somewhere I’ve actually been — not a place I read about and rewrote. The photos and video are mine, from the trip in question. The practical details (parking, opening hours, whether you need a reservation) come from what I found or was told when I was there, cross-checked against the official source where one exists.
That said, hours and prices change, and small operators in particular don’t always keep every listing up to date. If a detail here is genuinely load-bearing for your plans — a phone-only booking line, a seasonal closure — it’s worth a quick call to confirm before you drive out.
A Note on the Links Here
Some of the links on this site are affiliate links — for rental cars, tours, or similar bookings — which means I may earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. I only link to things I’d genuinely recommend to a friend making the same trip; the commission doesn’t change what gets written about or how.
Thanks for reading — and if one of these guides gets you off the main road and into a part of Kyushu you wouldn’t have found otherwise, that’s exactly the point.
